INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS PROGRAM FOR OLDER ADULTS
Blindness Support Services, Inc. has developed a program
of independent living core services for seniors with visual impairments in
the San Bernardino County area of Southern
California.
Services offered include:
a) Orientation & Mobility
b) Activities of daily Living
c) Adaptive Equipment/Assistive Technology
d) Adjustment Counseling
e) Advocacy
f) Transportation
Examples of instructional lessons for personal and home
management include, but are not limited to: household cleaning, meal
preparation, identifying clothing, shopping, and money identification,
organizing a budget, paying bills and using modern communications systems
including Braille and keyboarding. Tasks include the many ordinary things
that sighted persons take for granted. Services are offered through a
collaborative partnership with senior centers, adult living facilities, and
mobile home parks throughout San
Bernardino County.
Training occurs on a scheduled basis.
